By now, all of my carnivorous plants that grow only during the warmer months have emerged from dormancy. The tuberous Drosera have retreated to their subterranean lairs.
Drosera binata started showing signs of new growth in mid-February.
It was interesting for me to see Drosera tracyi emerge from dormancy as this is the first time I've seen it do so. The hibernaculum was a purplish color for several months, but then it turned green and started unfurling in early March!
Unlike Drosera tracyi, Pinguicula primuliflora doesn't really change its appearance much between being dormant and actively growing. Neither do the Utricularia that inhabit various pots in my collection. But they do greet the onset of spring with open flowers.
Mature Sarracenia also mark the beginning of the growing season with flowers.
While other plants were busy sending up flowers and unfurling new leaves, the tuberous Drosera quietly exited the scene. Drosera macrophylla went dormant around early-to-mid March, and Drosera ramellosa went underground in very late April.
